AFTER learning the trend of Baguio votes, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) proclaimed the winners, while some candidates who lost in this year’s polls conceded as early as Monday night.
On the evening of May 10, Mayor Reinaldo Bautista Jr. accepted his defeat and immediately congratulated congressman-elect Bernardo Vergara, mayor-elect Mauricio Domogan and Vice Mayor Daniel Fariñas.

Early morning Tuesday, Councilor Elaine Sembrano came to the Baguio Convention Center and greeted the candidates who were waiting for their proclamation. Lawyer Edgar Avila likewise conceded.
However, hours before the Board of Canvassers led by City Election Officer Modesto Bahul Jr. and City Prosecutor Alfredo Centeno proclaimed the winning candidates, former Mayor Braulio Yaranon asked for a deferment of the proclamation until after the Random Manual Audit (RMA). But the Board of Canvassers denied the petition.
Bahul said a request for a deferment is not an enough basis for them to cancel or postpone the proclamation.
At 8 a.m. or 13 hours after the closing of polls last May 10, the new set of elected officials was officially proclaimed.
During the day, lawyer Jose Molintas and some supporters trooped to the City Treasurer’s Office to monitor the RMA and signify their observations.
Molintas said the selection of precincts, which would undergo RMA, should have been done at the precinct level prior to its transmission to the board of canvassers.
The final, official results showed Vergara earned 27,020 votes for the congressional seat followed by; Rocky Thomas Balisong - 17,965; Leandro Yangot Jr. - 16,629; Edgar Avila - 15,395; Reinaldo Bautista Jr. - 12,833; Braulio Yaranon - 9,774; Rabindranath Quilala - 3,819; and Felipe Ramos - 155.
In the mayoralty seat, Mauricio Domogan garnered 47,374 votes while Molintas got 26,712 and Marquez Go - 21,072.
For vice mayor, Daniel Fariñas earned a significant lead over his rival Faustino Olowan with 55,157 and 33,488, respectively.
For councilor the magic 12 are: Nicasio Aliping (54,159), Betty Lourdes Tabanda (53,260), Isabelo Cosalan Jr. (47,121) Elmer Datuin (45,240), Peter Fianza (43,297), Edgardo Bilog Jr. (42,958), Richard Cariño (39,373), Perlita Rondez (37,913), Fred Bagbagen (37,525), Erdolfo Balajadia (35,666), Philian Weygan (35,662) and Nicasio Palaganas (35,490).
At the national level, Baguio voters were likewise caught up with the “yellow fever.”
Presidential candidate Benigno Aquino III led the presidential race with 42,603 votes, Mar Roxas for vice president with 47,679 votes.
The senate winners are: Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago, Ferdinand Marcos Jr., Franklin Drilon, Pilar Cayetano, Juance Ponce Enrile, Ramon Revilla Jr., Jinggoy Estrada, Serge Osmeña, Teofisto Guingona III, Raphael Recto, Vicente Sotto III and Ruffy Biazon.
